Pattonville High School senior Micah Thompkins was chosen to represent Pattonville as a St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete. In its 51st year, the Scholar Athlete program honors a student from every high school in the area who participates in athletics and excels in the classroom.

Thompkins was selected for the recognition by nomination and vote of Pattonville's coaches. He will be honored with his biography published in the May 2 edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and online at STLToday.com. He will also be recognized during an event at Busch Stadium.

Thompkins qualified to compete at state in the fall of 2016 in boys cross country and in spring 2016 for boys track, where he was also named All-Conference First Team. He was the Suburban XII conference champion in the 1600 race. He was the cross country team MVP for two years in a row.

Thompkins' academic accolades are many: he was selected as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, a program created by executive order of the president to recognize some of the nation's most distinguished graduating seniors in the areas of academics, leadership and service to school and community. He was also named a College Prep Scholar through QuestBridge, through which he was awarded a full scholarship to Northwestern University. He also earned Scholar with Honor recognition through the AP (Advance Placement) Scholar awards program after scoring an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. He was also named a National Merit Commended Student.
