|In-person classes canceled for remainder of school year|
|Thursday, April 9, 2020|
Dear Pattonville families and staff,
This is a letter I hoped I would not have to write. We have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel in-person classes for the remainder of the school year. Although distance learning and support for our families will continue through the end of school (now set for May 29), our buildings will remain closed until further notice and all school and district events scheduled for April and May are canceled. While we are heartbroken at the notion of finishing the year without being together, we believe we must take this unprecedented step to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and help save lives in our community.
This decision follows recommendations from local health and government officials and is in collaboration with other St. Louis County public school districts. We will continue to follow the guidance of health and government officials as we make decisions on end-of-year events.
We know each school year brings about important milestones in the lives of our children. We are mindful of the disruption and disappointment this global pandemic has wrought on these turning points in our families’ lives. Where possible, our schools will try to celebrate student accomplishments in a safe manner. Our high school is looking into the possibility of rescheduling prom, and any changes to the current graduation ceremony scheduled for June 4 will be communicated in the coming weeks.
While our school buildings are closed, we remain committed to working together with our families and community to support our students and each other. We will remain Villemade and Pattonville strong.
